And its not even 10:30. The 9-5 grind is really getting to me. Is this what its like to be old?

Yep. Stock up on adult diapers now. All that time you spend going to and from the bathroom could be use to file taxes, or sleep.

I’m in the same boat... well, off to bed.

NINE to five??? Pretty sweet gig there, I’m usually in the office by 7-7:30. Don’t worry, if undergrad hasn’t taught you already, you’ll learn to function on <5 hours of sleep.

Well its an internship, and HR would probably blow a blood vessel if they had to pay all of us overtime.
Everyone else in the office puts in way more hours than the HR presentations told us they do though. Firm 40 my ass...

I always want to go to bed.

Yes and no. The GF is more of a night person and she can stay up late; I, contrarily, must have been a farmer in a previous life because I wake up at ungodly hours and want to go to bed at 9. When I was in my early 30’s, I used to get up at 6:30, hit the gym, work 12 hours, come home and be up until 12 or 1am. Now, >10 years later, I want to be in bed by 9:30.

Overtime for interns?? Where is this socialist heaven?? You normally get around that by making them a salary-type position.

The exotic town of Troy. Exciting, I know.
And yeah, we get actual overtime. I have a few hours on my first paycheck.

Old? Im barely in my mid 20’s and its 8-5 here. I used to be in around 7:30, but didnt feel like dealing with some of the field techs so early, so I wait until just about 7:55 to walk in.
Last job was 10-6, that was like heaven in comparison for work hours, but I often worked pretty late. Now Im just home late from the lady’s house, and I drive home, stumble to bed and repeat.
You get used to waking up early, its really not so bad. Its really easy for me to take naps on the weekends and fall asleep on the couch at my girlfriends now because Im so wiped out. I never went to parties when I was younger and im pretty good about not being out late, but full time jobs dont leave you with much choice in the matter.

I don’t consider myself a philosopher, but one little nugget of wisdom I’ve pieced together over the years is that life is basically an attempt to compromise between hours worked and quality of life. And as you get older, there’s more and more pressure to work more in exchange for more money. So you can buy more shit, which is cool, but you don’t have time to enjoy it, which sucks. It’s all a zero sum game. I haven’t driven my Porsche in like 2 months. :(
